How to Get There |
"How do I get to Fethiye?"
You can fly with Turkish Airlines from Istanbul to Dalaman or Bodrum -- the 45 minute flight costs about $100 (one way). You can book the flight directly with Turkish Airlines - in the USA call toll free 1-800-874-8875. Or we recommend our travel agent "Fare Deals Travel" (Call Ritu at US Toll Free 1-800-878-2929). They have good experience in dealing with Turkish Airlines and they get special rates with them. Or take a bus! Here is all the web info we could find about the busses in Turkey... FAQ |
I would like to know a
little bit more about Butterfly Valley and I would like to know how can I reach the valley from Izmir or, if possible, from Lisbon.
-- Catia, Serbia Butterfly Valley is a very small, beautiful valley with a great beach. They offer tiki huts and teepees that you can stay overnight in for about $6 a day. You can only get there via ferryboat from Fethiye or you can get a minibus from Fethiye to Faralya Village and you can hike down (it is a dangerous hike). George's House in Faralya Village also offers an overnight pad (literally) under the stars for about the same price. Regardless of where you stay you must visit George's House for a meal. It's all-you-can-eat for about $3 - All food is organic, grown and prepared by George's family. It is a unique treat. Here are some websites you can check for more information... http://www.zevzek.com/special/butterfly.htm http://www.geocities.com/kelebekvadisi/kelebeking.html But please keep this our secret - you wouldn't want it to get too crowded. |

FAQ Mini Cruises |
My husband and I are
leaving for Turkey next month. We want to charter a cabin for a 4-day
mini cruise from Marmaris to Fethiye leaving Sept. 29. (We're not
flexible with the date since most cruises only embark on Saturday.) I
can book a cabin now with Eser Yachting for $225 per person. In your
opinion, could I get a better deal by just showing up on Friday or
Saturday? That way we could check out the gulets/cabins as well. My fear
is that we may not get on any cruise, although I hear there are plenty
of companies that charter cabins. Regards, J. Scheid, Germany
I suggest you stick with what you have - I do not think there are so many boats available. Most gulets charter the whole boat for $800 a day - minimum 7 days in September. I think You are fortunate to have found a boat that fits your schedule. The price seems reasonable too (assuming it includes food). You will have a wonderful time. The sea is beautiful - the food is great and the people are wonderful. You got a bargain for $50 a day! Bon Voyage! - Beti |

FAQ |
"I am intending to walk the Lycian path in the end of
September till half
of October. The guide says there may be thunderstorms by the end of October.
Is
that exactly or are they to expected sooner also (half October, or
before)?
My second question is: is there a Turkish site where people are looking
for
a walking-mate. I am a male walker form the Netherlands, walking 25-40
kilometers a day, but also want to enjoy some day's in one of the nice
little villages I expect to find on the Lycian coast.
I would be pleased if you could give me some information." -- Teun,
Netherlands I wish I could join you - but I will be sailing along the Lycian coast at the time. Perhaps we will run into each other? Who knows. Anyway, as for the weather, I travel there in September/October and have never seen much rain. Having said that, I guess it could happen, but I would not be preoccupied with it. If it rains it will rain on us both. A Dutch hiking group...http://zwerftochten.bergsport.com/reportages/kackar00/. I hope this helps. Let me know how you make out. |

"Please could you tell me the
name of the trip you can take on foot that takes you through a ravine
where the water is icy cold, sorry I'm not explaining it very well but I
saw it on television lately and I wanted to know if it was near Fethiye.
Also, is Fethiye a good place to travel from to Kalkan and Olu Deniz, I
went to Icmeler last year it was the third time I'd been and I thought I
would explore the Fethiye area, are there many day boat trips too as we
enjoy these." -- Annette, Switzerland The place you wish to visit is called 'Saklikent' (hidden city). Yes it is very close to Fethiye and it is beautiful. You can hike through the gorge which can be dangerous in the spring when the snow melt is flowing heavily - but it is such fun! There are day boat trips in Fethiye just like Marmaris every day. Kalkan and Oludeniz can be reached easily by minibuses and they are also very close. |
