We love to read about Illinois. Here are some of
our favorite books.
We found them interesting and informative.
(Some are a bit
hard to find, but are working on a reliable source to
recommend.)

Abraham Lincoln : Speeches and Writings
1832-1858 (Library of America)
by Abraham Lincoln, Don E.
Fehrenbacher (Editor)
Non-Fiction. Studying Presidents of the United
States can be interesting and Abraham Lincoln is probably one of the most
fascinating. This would be a great travel guide to read before visiting the
museums in Illinois that are dedicated to Abraham Lincoln. Deemed a "rewarding
reading experience," this hardbound classic is a must have.
Return to the Scene of the Crime: A Guide to Infamous
Places in Chicago by Richard Lindberg
Non-Fiction. A fascinating book that explores some of the most notorious crime
scenes in the Chicago area. These crimes scenes are not often explored in
other research books. The detective in all of us will appreciate the detail
and historical context in which this book was written. This book is not
recommended as a travel guide, but rather just a book about famous cites
within Chicago that involve crime.
